Boeing "Quiet Bird" Models

I have been smitten with this little guy for a lllooonggg time. Cooked up a CAD model and 3D printed out a 1/72 scale model and a RC model...the RC model did not work well. Intake sucked and not in a good way! Wing planform contributed to some significant tip stall tendencies that led to the 4 takeoffs quickly leading to 4 landings on its back.

For the 1/72 I added a semi-fictional glass housing under the nose for a camera and painted it sort of like a US Army YO-3A in Vietnam.

For RC did you try cheater holes on the underside? Or even just a full intake.

Yep this one had 2 cheater intakes on the bottom that would also provide cooling air to the ESC. They vented into the intake via over-sized slots inside the inlet. Roughly emulating a boundary layer system.

I have a significant re-worked design under way which completely opens the inlet up. If you are wondering what a Quiet Bird would look that functions better, I refer you to a couple Scaled Composites airplanes! (401 and 437)

I've been 3D printing a lot of planes lately, they fly very well and much lighter than the foamie retail versions of the same model.

Have you tried the control surfaceless NGAD? I haven't had a chance to maiden it yet but looks fun.

I have not tried that model but yes am interested in doing a variety of RCs. Just need to balance time! Darn life and day job. I actually did the RC Quiet Bird a few years ago but since then have not touched 3D print RCs.

But yes, actually seeing that particular model from "Builtfast" and Rene Rosentrager's recent work encouraged me to give RCs another crack.

Honestly I am not sure I will actually finish the re-re-model of QB RC. I have tinkered with that design off an on since it was unveiled....kinda scratched that itch! There are a lot of other ones I would rather get to.
