Beriev Be-2500 « Neptun » super-heavy amphibian cargo aircraft

Re: Re: Beriev Be-2500 « Neptun » super-heavy amphibian cargo aircraft

Beriev Be-2500 Neptun (Neptune)

From the Beriev Aircraft Company website as of Aug 21, 2009:

The Be-2500 super-heavy transport seaplane will come a part of commerce and special service transportation on transoceanic routes.

The design concept of super-heavy seaplane allows operate the a/c both in WIG mode above the ocean and in aircraft mode. The Be-2500 seaplane may become a perfect platform to deliver the spaceships to the upper atmosphere of the Earth equatorial area.

The Be-2500 may also be used for landing operations, search and rescue missions, as well as the vehicle for prospecting and extraction operations at shelves and archipelagoes areas.

The facilities of existing major ports may provide sufficient support for operation and anchorage of the seaplane.

First four images were found on the Beriev Aircraft Company web site.

According to Wikipedia:

The Beriev Be-2500 Neptun (Cyrillic: Бериев Бе-2500 Нептун) is a super-heavy amphibian cargo aircraft concept being developed by the Beriev Aircraft Company of Russia. Its maximum takeoff weight is projected to be 2,500 metric tons, hence the designation.

It is designed to function as both a conventional high-altitude jet and as an Ekranoplan. It is intended to fly transcontinental routes, taking off from conventional sea-ports and requiring no special infrastructure.

If it enters service, it will become the new largest aircraft in the world, surpassing another aircraft designed in a territory of the former Soviet Union, the Antonov An-225.

Beriev states that if this plane is to become a reality investments from several countries are needed.

To date, it appears that the design has not generated customer interest or foreign investment and is likely to be a unbuilt project according to some sources.

Some sources and drawings have identified this design as the Beriev Be-2500P.

Re: Re: Beriev Be-2500 « Neptun » super-heavy amphibian cargo aircraft

Beriev Be-1200

The Beriev Be-1200 appears to be a variant powered by six Rolls-Royce Trents, with 490 kN (110,230 pounds) of thrust each with reduced range (10,000 km (5396 nm/6214 mi)) and cargo weight capacity (450,000 kg (991,190 lb)). All other characteristics appear to be identical to the Beriev Be-2500.

Information about a model Be-1200 does not appear on the Beriev Aircraft Company website. Information comes from a blog written in June 2001.

Re: Re: Beriev Be-2500 « Neptun » super-heavy amphibian cargo aircraft

The revised design has all six engines forward. Maintenance considerations?

Re: Re: Beriev Be-2500 « Neptun » super-heavy amphibian cargo aircraft

Air blowing over the wing? Center of the gravity issues on the revised design?

Re: Re: Beriev Be-2500 « Neptun » super-heavy amphibian cargo aircraft

Hello,

here the proper question is wing generating the ekran effect with out the help of the engines if yes why should you need all of the trust to be under the wing ( if i understand Matej question correctly )

there will be no maintenance problems as we know the seaplanes of that caliber will have special designed dry-dock's with the proper equipment for the maintenance ( see the Luna dry-dock for an example )

Re: Re: Beriev Be-2500 « Neptun » super-heavy amphibian cargo aircraft

Model of Beriev Be-2500 from USSR-Russian Aviation and Space Collectibles.

17.5 inches wing span Beriev Design Bureau heavy resin model of Be-2500 huge machine weighting 2500t(5,500.000 lb) at take-off is a further development of the Be-1200(Be-2000) layout. It combines the properties of a traditional seaplane (flying boat) and a WIG Ekranoplane vehicle, being capable of flying both in ground effect and at high altitude. The basic specifications of the Be-2500 are as follows.Powerplant: six Kuznetsov NK-116 turbofans; maximum payload, 1000t (2,200,000lb);cruising speed in high altitude 10 km (32,810ft), 700 km/h; in ground-effect mode, 450 km/h;ferrying range in high-altitude flight, 17,000 km(10600 miles). First project presented by Beriev factory at Hydro Aviation Show 2000 in Ghelendzhik in September 2000. This project is a long-term prospective design not intended to be implemented in the immediate future. It is presumed that such ultra-heavy aerial vehicles may be used for transportation on transatlantic and transpacific routes. The unique potential of Design Bureau named after Beriev with regard to designing and producing hydroplanes in any weight category and for any duties (including Ekranoplanes) called forth a very unorthodox idea of creating a maritime space complex (MSC) designed to tackle a wide range of tasks of global scope. This complex would make it possible to launch any space objects and manned space vehicles in a wide range of latitudes and trajectories and bring them back into the required point of the world`s oceans which cover 71 per cent of the globe`s surface.

Re: Re: Beriev Be-2500 « Neptun » super-heavy amphibian cargo aircraft

Model of Beriev Be-2500 from USSR-Russian Aviation and Space Collectibles identified as Beriev Be-2500P.

16 inches wing span heavy resin model of Beriev Design Bureau on blue Plexiglas stand made in the shape of Oceanic wave. This outstanding quality model features Beriev factory logo, clear windows on fuselage and wings, detailed engines and entire craft. Original model custom hand made for presentations to VIP guests and Officials during airshows. Model represent second version of Be-2500 (Be-2500P), which differ in aerodynamic layout from Be-2500.Layout of Be-2500P is almost identical to that of the Be-1200(Be-2000), the only difference being the shape of the wing center section trailing edge and the location of aft-mounted engines which are placed outboard of the fins, not inboard. Thus Be-2500P, unlike the Be-2500, can use its nose-mounted engines for power-augmented take-oof, directing their exhaust under the wing. Be-2500/Be-2500P project is a long-term prospective design of Beriev`s Bureau and not intended to be implemented in the immediate future. It is presumed that such ultra-heavy aerial vehicles may be used for transportation on transatlantic and transpacific routes.
