Found a press release at NASA HQ. The images were in horrid shape, but I'm sure someone can fill them in with better versions...

Hi,

http://www.secretprojects.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,4783.0/highlight,bell+hypersonic.html

I *knew* I had better versions of the art around here somewhere. Mostly photos (my scanner had died) from the Niagara Aerospace Museum archive.

Is it possible that there was a variant of this concept
with eight tilting engines ?
It was once mentioned in an very old issue of 'The Aeroplane'.
Maybe 1959...

Hello Paul,
congratulation, you knew the year of the Aeroplane issue at once, I still had
to look for it !
Yes, it must have been n°2 from 1959 and the same project was shown in
Flugwelt 1960. If there really is a relation, I don't know.

Good Day All -

With thanks to Flateric for ID'ing the model, here's a color image of the design.

Enjoy the Day! Mark

That airport art is breathtaking. I love that there's a B-58-based airliner next to it with people boarding from the tarmac and a tiltrotor on the other side of the terminal. I love that those aren't the craziest parts of this vision.

I agree, I love that airport photo scene. It smacks of the future we should have had...30 years ago.
