I had the opportunity to visit the Thales Alenia Space factory in Italy, and I’m truly impressed by the incredible progress being made on Axiom Space's Axiom Station! Seeing the team’s dedication and expertise firsthand fills me with excitement for the future. Unveiled during the International Astronautical Congress, organized by the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) and hosted by Milan in its 75th edition, the Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit (AxEMU) spacesuit represents the result of the extraordinary collaboration between international leaders in technology, innovation and creativity.
Starting from October 18, 2024, the Axiom Space and Prada collaboration #AxEMU spacesuit is presented to the public with an installation at the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan, as an extension of the IAC event in the heart of the city.

An important key to innovation is the ability to look at a problem and explore different solutions. Just because something has always been done one way doesn't mean that a better approach doesn't exist.

The extension of the MOU between @spacegovuk and Axiom Space renews and establishes a key public-private partnership between government and industry, enabling a UK-led and/or an all-UK mission to the International Space Station or a future commercial orbital platform.

The intent of this collaboration is to facilitate a commercial human spaceflight mission with Axiom Space coordinating access across multiple operators and providers, supporting UK astronauts and research payloads. The MOU extension allows for ongoing cooperation to plan, fund, and execute missions while engaging corporate sponsors. They have had a choke hold on technology transfers and the like for the last few decades though? Starting in the late 1980s but really taking off from the 1990s. A lot of it focused on bureaucratic empire building rather than national security, which allowed the Red Chinese among others to often run rings around them if I'm not mistaken. And otherwise has caused more than a few disasters, diplomatic, economic, and project related, in the aerospace and defense industries over the years. Also, some aerospace regulatory functions were transferred from NASA and other agencies to the department during the 1990s and 2000s, if I recall correctly.

NASA never had any regulatory functions.
EAR (Export control) is DOC. ITAR (arms) is DOS.
Axiom is still subject to those, whether NASA is involved or not.

Axiom Station is scalable, designed to grow with the demands of the future. Initially, it will be smaller than the ISS, but built with more than 25 years of lessons learned, improving efficiency, flexibility, and space utilization. The modules will be optimized for commercial use with modern storage and inventory management solutions for in-space research and manufacturing. Additions like crew quarters or labs will be less complex and more adaptable so even as Axiom Station grows, it can prioritize efficient applications over size.

Bhatia was an excellent fundraiser. Which the company really needs to survive (and pay its bills). Where Axiom goes from here is not clear. Spacesuit business survives because it is mission critical for NASA. Station side of the business faces more questions.
