Aviation Volume 46 No. 3 - Special Issue (1947)

The March 1947 issue of what later became Aviation Week (and later still American Week & Space Technology) was a special, packed with photos and info on the main current commercial and military types, both American and international.

Instead of cutting in up in little pieces and scattering it all over the forum, I've elected to feature it all in one topic. The attachments will be grouped as follows, post after post:

A couple of comments:

• The layout was reworked to omit advertisements and page numbers.
• I haven't seen any charts for foreign helicopters or foreign piston engines.
• A few oddities can be spotted: The Douglas Skystreak being designated the "XS-3" is one!

A few oddities can be spotted: The Douglas Skystreak being designated the "XS-3" is one!

I suspect the D-558 was originally expected to meet the XS-3 requirement, following XS-1 (X-1) and XS-2 (X-2). But those early development efforts were moving targets, so D-558 was replaced by the D-499 (X-3) for the XS-3 requirement.
