Hello guys,

here is the well-known Ar340, showing two engine configurations: Jumo 222 and DB 604, with apparently no change in external appearance.

Second image relates to several flying cabins ( Kanzel or Kampfkopf ) proposed/studied for this interesting "paper bird", also the wouldbe speed with two different engines. So much for the "Bomber B" programme.

Images taken from: "Arado-Flugzeuge", by Jörg Armin Kranzhoff

Enjoy.

What would be the aerodynamic advantage of the twin tails version?
It should be very compelling to offset the obvious structural disadvantage....
Or is this not really a serious project?

Yes it's a very abnormal design. ???
Gunner's rear view is excellent.

Yes, almost certainly for the gun position. The field of fire for the fuselage guns might even be better than the ones in the tailbooms!

FW261 had the same shape.
Wiki German auto translation...
"The Focke-Wulf Fw 261 of Focke-Wulf Flugzeugbau GmbH was a project for a long-range bomber / fighter seaplane.
The Focke-Wulf Fw 261 should represent a detachment of the Focke-Wulf Fw 200 "Condor" which could bring the operating in the Atlantic German U-boats of the enemy convoys with long-range and considerably increased combat power. At the same time, enemy ships by means of dropping weapons should be tackled. A distance of 9000 km and a bomb load of 3000 kg, the Focke-Wulf Fw 261 should reach a speed of 560 km/h and a maximum flight duration 22 hours. As cantilever shoulder-wing Earth Ecker with central hull and two tail beams arranged behind the outer engine nacelles, the central hull to accommodate four gun stands and a portion of the fuel as well as the dropping weapons was intended. It should be noted that the designation FW 261 Focke Wulf without approval of the RLM was used."
