An-22 crash on Dec 9 might see retirement of the type and put more strain on Russian An-124 fleet:

This catastrophe will likely accelerate the permanent grounding of the remaining handful of operational An-22s, effectively retiring the type from active duty. The crash underscores the growing risks associated with extending the service life of 50-year-old airframes to meet modern strategic transport demands. The operational focus will now shift almost entirely to the An-124 Ruslan and modernized Il-76 fleets to fill the heavy cargo gap left by the Antey’s final departure.

There are no any "remaining handful of operational An-22s". Level of expertise is overwhelming.

The An-22 that broke was the last operational one in the world, the USSR only built a total of 68 including the prototypes before production ended.

Enhanced image of the breakup, just brutal.

Brutal is an understatement, what we're seeing is the catastrophic structural failure of aircraft that has exceeded its' total fatigue-life. Also given that the wreck crashed into a lake right below it ensured that there were no survivors.

Or, more precisely, any attempt of a refit/Life extension should have been done solely with the participation or by... the manufacturer.

Good luck with that given the manufacturer in question is Antonov.

The design bureau was Antonov, the manufacturer was Plant 84B in Uzbekistan, now known as Tashkent Aircraft Production Factory Mechanical Plant.

Tashkent was also the overhaul facility, logically enough.

The mode of failure readily apparent in the picture above surely makes the logically not so obvious...

And why does my post got canceled?! Aren´t remarks about the apparent airworthiness of transport fleet of a now reclusive nation not a point that we can debate on an aerospace forum before the junks start falling apart above someone else city capitol?!

Because this is topic dedicated to Antonov An-22. You can debate on airworthiness of Russian transport aviation fleet somewhere else.

You created the thread and relocated my post on your own initiative here. I placed it in the An-124 thread knowingly.
