I have found an article about the French ACRA system which shows a tank destroyer based on the AMX 10 chassis but also refers to a turret for the AMX 30 tank with a gun (142mm) launched version. Have had no luck finding a drawing or picture of this. It would be a French equivalent of the M60 A2 Starship and probably about as practical, but fun nonetheless.

No photo, but the full designation: Missile Anti-Char RApide
Launched in the 60s, and cancelled in the early 70s because the price/perf comparison with the KE AT ammo ("obus flèche" in France) was just getting too unfavorable.

I wonder if observing the US Army's experiences with Shillelagh on the M60A2 and M551 also contributed to the program's cancellation?

Interior drawing of AMX-30 ACRA turret here:

http://www.scribd.com/doc/38606186/COMHART-T10-Armements-antichars-missiles-guides-et-non-guides-France-2008#page=186

I only scan-read that chapter ( was researching HOT / Entac ) but it did note that the decision to focus ACRA deployment on the AMX-10 ( instead of -30 ) utterly disrupted the project, plus the sheer cost of the seeker at FR 1 million a shot meant that it would only rally be used for very high value targets.

At the same time, advances in gun laying and aiming ( thanks to computers ) were reducing the need for direct-fire guided projectiles of that type.

ACRA also suffered in that it could not be deployed from helicopters, which was felt to be the anti-armour platform of the future.

A couple more pictures from the prototype residing at Saumur.
Unfortunately, I can't remember where they came from.
