Dear Deino and Sentinel Chicken, my sincere congratulations! This is great result of a great work!

Stoked and/or excited doesn't even begin to describe the feeling of seeing my artwork published in IAPR!

Thanks Andreas for giving me this opportunity- it was fun and we have lots of other cool stuff planned!

Looks cool!

Congrats to both of you :), Sentinel, do you work comercially, means do you sell artwork per example pictures for a wall???

"Nice to see this" is an understatement, Andreas.

Names like Mike Badrocke, John Weal, and Keith Fretwell are names that I have long idolized ever since I was old enough to comprehend what I was reading and to put my own pencil to paper to create my own profiles. Long before I discovered the digital art medium I did pencil sketches inspired by Keith Fretwell's work that adorns the pages of so many of my books.

A friend of mine once described Mike Badrocke's cutaways as "Engineering Porn". :D

;D

Congratulations!!!! I´m very interested...

Only one thing... I buy it from a Spanish book store... so I must wait for at least 2 month... :'(

I finally got my issue of IAPR Volume 22 in the mail yesterday. Wonderful article, Andreas- I particularly appreciated how you devoted considerable space at the start of the feature to put the Chengdu J-10 in the proper historical/political context!

The artwork ain't half bad, either!

And I also liked your approach to the controversies regarding the connections between the Lavi program and the J-10. Very fair and wonderfully written.

I hope my copy shows up soon. I never seem to get mine until right before the next issue comes out.

Update: My issue showed up two days after I posted this. Great work guys, I'm really enjoying the J-10 article. :D

Just got a note ....

Apparently there were some problems with what was going to be the Focus Aircraft feature for issue 25 (= MiG-25), so the JH-7 article has been moved up. ;D
As a result most of the next issue has to be re-done and that means, of course, that Vol 25 won't be out for some time yet !

Cheers, Deino

Finally our next “project” is finished …

Anyway as this is now the third publication on that topic I would like to ask You for some comments, Your opinion and especially critics.
In the German FF there was a very ‘harsh’ discussion, if such an article can be published without visiting, inspecting the real ‘hardware’ by first hand or at least in China itself.
I know it’s questionable to use mostly internet-sources, but in this case – until we finally have something like a Chinese perestroika – Chinese aviation magazines and a careful watch of the Chinese Internet scene is the only way I have at hand.

Therefore … it’s up to You know and Thanks in advance,

Deino

"... without visiting, inspecting the real ‘hardware’ by first hand"

What a pity, no more articles about historic aircraft, where's the last example
has gone long ago .... ;D

Completely missed that thread in the FF ! Anyone, who would guess, how many
articles in books or magazines (about modern aircraft !) are written after "inspecting
the real thing" ? ::)

A J-11BS Fighter photoed in China’s Yanliang Flight Testing Center

Apr.12 (China Defense Mashup Reporting by Johnathan Weng) — Although this photo is not clear, but it is still the first available picture of J-11BS fighter, which is now being evaluated in Yanliang Flight Test Center, Xi’an city, Shanxi Province. J-11BS is a two-seat version of J-11B and it is similar to F-15E “Strike Eagle”. J-11BS’s final performance will be close to F-15K and it is significant of realizing PLAAF’s concept of “Offensive and defensive Operation Integration”. According to my estimation, J-11BS’ development will be finished in this year.

Just to complement this tread for those who are interested... here's the latest feature on Chinese military aviation:

Chinese AEW / AWACS programs:
http://www.fliegerrevue.de/fr_heft.asp?PG=191&AID=23223

+ already published the part on the CAC J-10B:

And as a real "teaser" in one of the next issues of "Combat Aircraft" a feature on the current status of the Chinese fighter- and fighter-bomber force.

Volume 12 Number 4 - April 2011

China’s Battlefield Attacker
Surely not as attractive as the J-10 or even the exotic J-20 from Chengdu, but nevertheless of equivalent importance to the PLA’s Army Aviation, the CAIG Z-10 attack helicopter has entered operational service after years spent under the cover of secrecy. Andreas Rupprecht details a troubled development, and how the future of the Z-10 is still uncertain
