ADVANCED TACTICAL FIGHTER: The McDonnell Aircraft Corporation has an advanced design for a Mach 3.0-4.0 tactical fighter fulfilling the U.S.A.F.s Aeronautical Systems Division's Advanced Development Objective 12.

Advanced Development Objetive 12
Never heard about such an advanced program for 1963. A tactical fighter faster than the A-12/SR-71? Please could you give more info?...any drawing ;D

The chapter "American Fighter Projects Summary" in Tony Buttler's American Secret Projects: Fighters & Interceptors doesn't seem to mention a McDonnell design for a Mach 3-4 fighter jet. Given that the ATF competition started in 1980s, it possible that this design was an 80s proposal.

"ATF" was in use before the 80s (though don't know if it was associated with the program that eventually led to the F-22). Here is a Republic "ATF" from the 70s for example.
