1943 X-P0 and X-P1 Prototype Chinese fighters

Something about the last photo of the CAFX16 looks like a model posed in a setting. Igor Shestakov of Unicraft models made a bunch of photos of his Luft '46 models in settings like that. Very realistic, but still something about them.......

A bit more on the XP-1. The use of bamboo is interesting.

"At the beginning of the 1940s, under [American KL Zakharchenko's] leadership there began a project for a fighter monoplane project (XP-1). Its fundamental originality was a reversed-gull wing, and automatic slats. In June 1943 Zakharchenko returned to the USA, and the Chinese continued the projects and production themselves. They completed the first example at the beginning of fall. It was of mixed construction, the fuselage and outer wing panels of wood and the nose section of the fuselage and the wing center section of metal. The motor was a Wright Cyclone giving a projected speed of 588 km/h. But the machine was overweight, and in practice was capable only of 547 km/h. During one of its flights the aircraft suffered a catastrophic failure over Guiyan, in the opinion of the Chinese due to aerodynamic instability, and the pilot was killed. When the design of the aircraft was extensively examined at the aviation faculty at Chongqing, they uncovered this instability and wondered why it had not been uncovered earlier. They attributed it to "obsequiousness toward foreigners" but a second prototype was not constructed."

Please tell me the name of the first one.

It is the 1943 Chu X-P0 prototype (produced at AFAMF No1, Kunming), designed by Maj-Gen Chu Chia-Jen.

... the correct designation for the fighter plane called "X-PO" in this thread is actually XP-0.

In this thread? The aircraft's designation is only mentioned in two posts. In the first it is given correctly as XP-0. In the second, blackkite is quoting airwar.ru - the source of the 'X-PO' (originally given as a Cyrillic Kh-RO).

Both of those prototypes are illustrated (1/72 scale 3 views) in Justo Miranda's book "Enemy at the Gates."

I know that, but airwar.ru has the aircraft's designation wrong (the title of the page should have been updated to read XP-0 rather than XP-0).

sinorecords.org/XP-1
Contains plenty of development details and a few more photographs of the this Chinese prototype fighter.

XP-0 at least 5 built and have different appearance. First Prototype look like P-36A, but you can see the photo in sinorecords, it have a different appearance in wheel and cockpit.
