According to forums.airforce.ru, it seems, that the Kh-59MK2 ALCM (MAKS 2015) for the Su-57 might have the new designation "Kh-69", so it won't get confused with the former Ch-59MK2 Owod-MK2 (MAKS 2009).

Is it me or does the X-69 look rather like a lengthened Storm Shadow/SCALP stealthy cruise missile without the air intake? it certainly looks like it from certain angles.

I might be nitpicking too much, but could that be a mockup for an external fuel tank?
Again, the landing gear, looks extremely realistic (the light on the top left is also an interesting addition). The intake....well..seems like one piece, soo... yeah, mockup

Kh-59MK2 (also known as Kh-69) is more of a tactical CM than dedicated AShM tho.

Kh-59MK2, in the original sense (anti-ship version with a radar seeker of the EO guided Kh-59MK, developed principally for China IIRC). The other missile also known as Kh-59MK2 (completely different ALCM with square section fuselage, high-aspect ratio flip-out wings and conformal engine intake) was renamed Kh-69, as you mention.

There's no Kh-59mk2.

Kh-59MK2 (square-shaped) is now Kh-69 with redesigned front section.

Versions :

Kh-59 'Ovod' ,basic version ,max range 50km
Kh-59M 'Ovod-M', max range 120km
Kh-59M2 'Ovod-M2' ,max range 200km
Kh-59MK/MK2 ,max range 280-300km

F-35s with JSM?
Kh-69 weighs basically double and has a much bigger warhead. JSM is fundamentally restrained by the tight dimensions of the F-35s bays, even if volume isn't actually that small. But length is a major limitation. Su-57s bays are not only deep but also long and wide.

Not trashing the F-35 and JSM here, it's just in a very different weight class and doesn't pack the same punch. Which is why I said "genuine" ALCM, because to me the Kh-69 approaches the big ALCMs that are carried by bombers internally or externally by tactical aircraft far more than JSM. If F-35 could carry AGM-158 internally that would be an incredible capability.

The X-69 doesn't have as much range when launched from a hi-hi-lo profile. Neither does it have anti-ship capability as robust as JSM. I don't get how you can discount JSM, a modern, stealthy, passively guided subsonic ASCM missile as if it were a cheap FAMM.. quite the stretch

The Kh-69 has showcased greater range against targets in Ukraine than the 400km stated in Wikipedia. I don't discount JSM, it's just a lighternduty missile, while Kh-69 is basically more closely akin to something like Taurus just in a more suitable form factor (more suitable for the Su-57s and T-75s bays that is), lighter without compromising on warhead weight too much and because of that lacking the penetration on target that Taurus could offer for example.

JSM is good to disable SAM radars and launchers, which makes sense given it's integration into the Joint Strike Fighter, which was primarily developed to conduct SEAD and DEAD against a new generation of Russian and later Chinese origin SAM systems. As Kh-69 is more heavy duty and packs thus more punch, it's obviously more suited to also strike and destroy or severely damage structures, like for example the turbine halls of power plants, or munition stores. My hopes are high that F-47 and F/A-XX will finally be able to carry JASSM and LRASM internally, thus giving the US similar capability with regards to launching stand off munitions covertly without having to mobilize B-2s.

The Kh-69 is a modernised version of the Kh-59 missile, which itself is a design from the soviet period. It has probably a reduced signature compared with the older version, but given the age of the design and the dimensions of the body it is probably outclassed by the modern stealth missiles which appeared in the last decade. The Kh-69 is also subsonic, so the probability of intercept by a defended target is big.

Again ,Kh-69 is the slightly modernised version of the Kh-59MK2 ( front section) and both have nothing to do with the former USSR.Both are stealth low flying subsonic square cruise missiles which were designed, projected and produced several years ago.

Btw ,this is non-stealthy low flying subsonic round CM type Kh-59MK2 which is modernised version of the old Soviet Kh-59M 'Ovod-M' ( version MK).

Variants of the Kh-59 missiles:

Kh-59 model

  • Kh-59 (AS-13 'Kingbolt') – original version with dual solid-fuel rocket engines. First shown in 1991; exported as Kh-59 or Kh-59E.[7]
  • Kh-59M (AS-18 'Kazoo') – adds turbojet engine and larger warhead. Range 115 km.[1]
  • Kh-59ME – 200 km-range variant offered for export in 1999.[4]
  • Kh-59MK – 285 km-range anti-shipping variant with turbofan engine and ARGS-59 active radar seeker.[4][11] The stealthy Kh-59MK2
  • Kh-59MK2 (AS-22) –low observable land attack variant of Kh-59MK (fire-and-forget),[4] equipped with either a 320 kg penetrating or 285 kg (628 lb) pellet warhead.[9][12] First unveiled at MAKS 2015.
And what Janes says about Kh-59:
https://web.archive.org/web/2012053...59-AS-13-KingboltOvod-Russian-Federation.html

"The missile has been given the NATO designation AS-13 'Kingbolt' and was first seen in 1991 with an export designation of X-59 or Kh-59E. It is believed that the missile was developed in the 1970s by the Raduga OKB as a longer range, updated version of Kh-25 (AS-10 'Karen'). "

I wouldn't trust wikipedia for anything related to weaponry, as the others have pointed out the Kh-69 looks nothing like the Kh-59 and i don't know if there's any real connection between the two.
In any case it's a pretty decent weapon in the vein of Scalp-EG/Taurus, with the added caveat it can be carried internally (and is probably a lot cheaper too).
I also wonder about the critique of it being subsonic, given that all other stealthy cruise missiles are subsonic as well.

Variants of the Kh-59 missiles:
"Kh-59mk2" seem to confuse people, when it really was an exhibition mock-up/developmental name/whatever.

KH-59M(2a) is a 5.3m long, 960kg delta canard with external engine, radar seeker and GNSS navigation. Seekers and warheads can vary (SAP, Cluster, BROACH), and original KH-59M in particular was a direct counterpart to US SLAM (optical man-in-the-loop/fpv).
Rather subpar weapon by modern standards, though excusable given it's age and roots.

KH-69 is a 4.2m long, 760kg swept wing with internal engine, electrooptical/IIR seeker and TERCOM(DSMAC)/GNSS navigation.
More or less a mini-SCALP/KEPD, comparable to a mini version of the latter which they propose to Korea.
Very modern kit, delivering 3/4 their warhead weight, to comparable ranges, in just 1/2 their weight.

KH-59M(2a)

Kh-59M2A ,it is in fact Product 720 . Missile is combined ASM and AGM.

About Kh-59MK2 and Kh-69, some sources mentioned that '69' is the export version of the '59MK2'. I doubt it because operational Su-57 already used '69's' during Russ-Ukr war several times so far. I suppose that number '69' is given 'cause it is completely new tactical CM developed only for the Su-57 itself.

@GARGEAN

''With its own jet engine slung underneath? Nah, Kh-59MK2 anti-ship missile.''

Su-57 was spotted with externally attached Kh-59MK/MK2. Of course, it was in non-stealthy combat configuration.

Note: The difference between the old Soviet Kh-59M 'Ovod-M' family (M2,MK,MK2) and the new stealt low flying subsonic tactical CM type Kh-69 is really huge. Difference between the old Soviet ARM type Kh-58U and the newer Kh-58UShK-TP is small. Wings and stabilizers of the UShK-TP are folded, there is new IRST there (2 pcs) for the passive IR homing besides passive radar homing too ,yes but overall the missile's shape is still the same.
