If you are inserting an image from another site via the URL option, there's no process to resize the image automatically. Nothing stops you inserting a small image, but if you insert a large image it will need to download it to view the post. Adjusting the size of the image just makes it smaller on the screen, it doesn't actually change the picture.
 
The new version of Xenforo can optimise uploaded files automatically, but I'm not sure thats always a good use case here, if someone has scanned or taken a photo in high res of a rare item, you kind of want the full size image attached if possible.

However, by attaching and inserting as thumbnail you get the full file available to anyone who wants to view or download it, but a smaller version in the page for viewing. Its also saved permanently to the forum.

Is it possible to add text to the post edit/create UI to say "For images, prefer using attachments for files over 100kb" or similar?
 
Another thing I have long wanted to see on this site, is having the thread title remaining visible while scrolling down the thread page. Don't know if its easily feasible but that would add to the clarity of reading, improving users experience.

For example the top banner could have a text variable set to repeat the thread title when it disappear from user's screen.

I have a profoundly silly suggestion. Is it possible to have an option for thread order to be newest posts at the top? It would neatly stop the five minutes of marching by twitter thumbnails loading, and making it an option would make it opt-in so people unaffected by the marching threads problem won't be bothered by it as a default. I am fully aware that the way software works means this could be an 'easy to say, difficult to do' dealio for yall. Thank you!
 
I don't know if this has been requested before, but, could the name of the banner vehicle be displayed on some corner of the banner?

Not easily possible, and you would lose context for the post if it was responding to an earlier post. Presently you should get taken to where you last read up to - then you can go forward.

That might be possible, I might give it a try on the test site.
 
Hadn't seen this before but I had a post deleted today because the term, "A.I. Overview" apparently triggers people. Are we really that fragile? Now I could understand not wanting it because, like Wiki, its accuracy could be questionable at times but because someone got triggered? Is there a list somewhere of "triggering" words, that people can't handle, for future reference?

Having the top menu remain visible when scrolling down may also be helpful. As The Clash once sung, Lock the Taskbar.

but are you referring to your google AI post about the McDonnell Douglas KC-10 in the Chinese 6th gen fighter thread?

Yes. It was specifically noted it was deleted for the AI reference not for being OT.

People are deeply traumatized about ai. It's kinda really that simple.

But yes, the term "AI" obviously triggers a lot of people, but not always because of fear of misinformation, but often enough because it smells like a bit of laziness ! It's easier to plunk an AI-summary, than to put it down in own words, and people may feel palmed off with it. Simply putting it in indirect speech, and pointing to doubtful statements probably could circumvent those problems, while not causing too much effort. @Sferrin, that was about my recommendation in the comment, and sorry again for forgetting about OT, but those comments cannot be edited afterwards.

No problem. OT made sense (threads can tend to drift) but the other had me scratching my head. Figured others might want to know about the AI thing.
 
Would it be possible to get the article BB code or is that part of a paid extension rather than something default to this version of XF2?

I tried using it for my most recent post but it didn't work, instead encompasing the link I was using in one of those url unwraps (iirc), so I had to treat it as a quote with the url taking place of the name.
 
Again and again I‘m getting the „Page could not be loaded“ message when browsing through, or opening the SPF. Sometimes clicking „reload“ just once do the trick, but sometimes it overstretches my patience …. A known problem?
 
Hi Paul,
I'm getting a weird issue when posting from mobile (samsung/chrome). For some reason the editing options are grayed out (unavailable). Also, I can't select images in posts I'm editing to resize them.

PS Seems fine on desktop (chrome)

I know this is August, the month of lengthy afternoon parties under the sun, but this is unacceptable. Being gauged, characterized, censored and then insulted at once is way too much.

Nobody comes to me saying that I am anti-French when I praise the Mirage or other well built systems . Nobody denounce me for hatred comment when I criticize some US programs. Or their Startup projects (but to be fair, many US startups have foreigners at their head, for various reasons, not always the most noble.

The water spray system (since I can only suppose that this what what angreed the moderator, has been debated in length technically here and I have pointed at its lack of relevance and lower performance comparing to other similar systems. That is not hate. This is patient analytical work that does not result in something that suits apparently the moderator personal view.

So spare me the stupid diatribe around what I personally think of a nation. Stay at your place. Redact or censor but refrain from encompassimg your weird take on someone that you don't know anything about.

Members are free to criticize the A400M, Airbus, French military procurement programs, or any moderation decision. However, phrases such as “stupid diatribe,” “stay at your place,” and personal accusations about a moderator’s motives are not acceptable. Staff patience is not unlimited.

You have, in many instances, been unable to control yourself when it comes to topics regarding Airbus, Rafale, as well as a number of other French programs. I also don't see the point in some of your random French language comments which you think are supposed to be funny.

And you continue unapologetically with this judgmental portraying of myself. Who the heck you think you are at the end ? In any case, you seem to be the one with a serious lack of temper, or to quote you, a serious problem of self control.

Rules Vs Law... Freedom of speech is paramount unless you do not know. Clubbing anonymous on the web, although a very popular hobby on the internet by some groups, is an unfringement of people right. Great display of professionalism anyway for a Moderator that does not moderate itself or the gospel of some. Again


And what the kind of behavior are you talking about? Are forumers dogs in your mind that you dare speak to someone like that?!

So write it clearly for all to read, you have cut me access to every of your pet topics, French defense hardware, until when? What's the infringement that you are elevating as an offense. Which one? Put matters on the table for all to see.

In other words, explain in non generic term the content that needs such a discriminatory treatment from other forumers as the extend of the actions you applied (which thread. What words should I not use? For how long)?

We're back to Freedom of Speech I see. If I didn't know better I'd think you were American. As a private forum, access to which was entirely free, we are governed by the rules as interpreted by the moderators, and ultimately my judgement because it's my server and my forum for the last 20 years.

I've previously offered myself as second opinion - moderators don't get every decision right, including me. Instead you self-detonate and yell at the moderators. Even if I had sympathy for your argument (and I have a few times) you constantly set fire to your position that your behaviour was fine by your reactions to the moderators. If you could moderate your reactions, things wouldn't escalate.

My name is on public display. I don't believe in doxing, but to complain about anonymous cabals while posting under a pseudonym smells fishy to me.

So how long will it last? I have to remind you that during the time of this review, this ban, undefined as it stands despite my request, is in effect, depriving me access to Threads of your moderator choice. It would then be understood as a cohesive action from this website, despite your words,

And just to remind that moderating a forum doesn´t involves the choice of arbitrary dictating a certain narrative. If that is the intend of this website, it should be clearly specified for all to take notice before they participate. For example: This website doesn't tolerate critical thinking toward French Armament programs.

But in no way it gives the liberty to depict someone in a derogatory way in a public space.
