120mm Vulcano is going to have ludicrous range.

127mm/54 Vulcano, leaving the muzzle at 760m/s, reaches 100km.

120mmL55 HE leaves the muzzle at about 1400m/s, but Vulcano is not the same weight as MPAT rounds.
Where does the 1400m/s come from?

The 120mm NATO has a brass case stub to seal the breech. Most of the case is combustible.

If you smoke, the 120mm case stubs make great ash trays.
I think Zen was talking about that Rheinmetall 155mm L/60 gun. Isn't this going to run into all of the same problems the US Army just did with ERCA? What could the Germans be doing differently while maintaining compatibility with typical 155mm shells?

The Germans use iron driving bands on their shells.

The US uses copper, which can't survive the 1200m/s muzzle velocity ERCA gets with the ERCA Super Charge.

The US canceled ERCA because it could not use the old shells in the stockpile, and they were unwilling to pay to replace all the driving bands in the stockpile.
 
An interesting thing about these new guided artillery shells is how maneuverable they are. There are versions that can go over a ridge and do an immediate 90° dive onto a target shielded behind the ridge. Or go past a mountain and circle back to a target behind the mountain. Or have several rounds hit at the same time, coming from different directions. A lot of new capabilities.
