Electric vertical takeoff aircraft completes first public test flight in Munich

Regards,
I dont really understand ERC. Lillium had the wrong aircraft concept, but was very succesful in getting funding, but failed. Volocopter's concept doesnt have a real business case and they ran out of funding. Airbus figured out that it doesnt make sense for them. Why is IABG now investing money in a hybrid eVTOL with a smaller team to do basically the same the others all failed to do.

Well, I think Lillium had the right concept they just lost the plot with like 1000+ employees and offices globally.

Volocopter's concept was just plain stupid from a design point of view.

Beta seems to be going nowhere, they keep flying around without the lift propellers so no VTOL just same as fixed wing.

So, in this case a smaller team and a generic design could come up a winner.

It's only money

yeah agree, but I dont think anyone will spend 1 billion anymore to get a new hybrid eVTOL through certification for a niche market segment. The ballpark price of certifying an eVTOL.

People used to talk millions, now they talk billions.

How much is getting a VTOL certified actually worth is the real question?

Companies are pouring in trillions into AI, and nothing has actually come from it yet.

I all these cases the money is OPM (Other People's Money) in some fashion and if they lose it, they lose it.

I liked the airframe pretty simple and was an elegant design. It also had a lot of redundancy in the multiple fan loss scenario.

As said if they didn't focus of massive expansion which caused a huge burn rate rather than focusing on prototypes they may have gotten further.

Guess we will never know.
