Hi All,
We know already design drafts for the soviet Pr.oject 1961 (TsKB-17):

On the carrier we see some E-1 Tracer planes alike. Some years ago a fellow from Shipbucket created a ficticious plane called Tu-30.
In essence it was a Tu-91 (18) that swapped TV-2 centally mounted turboprop for two Ivchenko AI-24 engines from Antonov planes, on this airframe an AEW was created with EC-121 style top-bottom radar-set.

Now I would like to make my own AU vision of Soviet navy with more capable Carrier-borne airfleet. Now I'd like to create my own desing of an AEW plane based on some real on unbuild designes of cargo/bomber planes from the late 60s/early 70s that could be navalized for usage on CATOBAL carriers. I was considering An-14 but I think that would be too fragile, could You help me there?
 
Low wings mean long landing gear to clear the props and belly radodome. Tall landing gear isn't ideal for carrier aircraft, low and widely spaced landing gear makes for better stability on the deck.

Thought about that; my IMHO, that the more possible version would be Tu-91 with either top, or bottom-mounted radar.

Replacing the central engine with two wing ones would basically be designing a completely new plane.

That is really nice ide, just thinking if the available space is too small, and would that single turbo-prop would disturb the radar? I think about somthing like Soviet Gannet AEW.

The simplest idea would likely be to lengthen the cabin a bit, so additional working stations could be installed behind pilot/navigator seat, and place a pair of radars (fore and back looking) in a streamlined blister below the hull, in place of torpedo mount.

The Tu-91 was designed to carry 1500+ kg on torpedo mount, so it would likely be able to carry radar blister without much troubles. And the blister could be placed on hydraulically lowering trapeze, so it would be lowered beneath the propeller during patrolling and raised to hull during landing.
 
Yeah, I think we are only talking about a picket plane rather than AWACS. Something like Guppies in USN.

Have idea I think might work; a belly blister with two longitudinal trough-like antennas (each looking at one side), with rotating Lewis-type scanner feeding the beam. This arrangement would produce fan-shape beams, narrow in horizontal plane, wide in vertical plane, scanning for azimuth. With some additional efforts, a rough angle scanning would likely be possible too (for example, by rocking the antennas up & down mechanically)
