First with Nike/Hawk and then with Patriot European countries purchased US missile systems to provide frontline air defence in Europe. UK and Canada have had no SAMs of this kind since withdrawing Bloodhound and Bomarc respectively.
Does anyone have ideas of what kind of missile system is available to fill the gap. The UK has used its Sea Ceptor missiles in a Land Ceptor version. Could the Sea Viper/Aster be adapted in the same way?

Isn't the Aster 15/30 already in use as a land based SAM system?

I thought so but am not up to date. Has UK purchased?

Other than the stocks for the Type 45 I don’t think so, but the French and Italians are still pushing the sales of the platforms, guess it just depends on what actually comes out of the defence review?
