The talk of Russian concept of twin core variable bypass engine remind me, exactly how is variable bypass achieved in the single core f120 engine? What did the engine do with fan air in pure turbojet mode? Is there more detailed data on how it worked besides speculative, cartoonish illustrations?

The engine always had some fan air bypassing so that the fan doesn't turn into a break. I've never seen it described as being capable of pure turbojet operation.
