The Bristol Tramp was an experimental test-bed triplane design of which only two (No. 5871 = J6912 and No. 5872 = J6913) were constructed and never flown. Powered by four Siddeley Puma 230hp six-cylinder inline engines housed in a central engine room with fuel tanks mounted above (right), the two four-bladed propellers were to have been driven by transmission shafts — supplied along with the gearboxes by the Siddeley-Deasy Motor Car Company — from the four engines mounted in the fuselage. However, due to problems with the transmission system, work on the design was halted in February 1922, the aircraft subsequently being transported to the Royal Aircraft Establishment at Farnborough where they were used as ground test rigs.
