Hi all,

i send you he site of an incredible "airfoil analyse program".......jus impressive
and free...based on XFOIL calculator....

Can it even factor in interference effects between wing and fuselage?

I think..

try it....

Just a standard PC XP equiped....

What program do you use as usual..????

Javafoil is too a good program for 2d airfoil analyse....all languages...

I've used XFLR5 extensively.
It's a nice tool, though the results must be taken with a grain of salt.
Basically you work in two phases:
-You first do 2D polars for the wing profiles (different AoA and Reynolds),
-Then you design a wing with those profiles and test it with various speeds, angles of attacks, center of gravity, control deflection etc

It's full of all kinds of menu options so I advise a newcomer to do a tutorial first - it's a bit hard to learn by just doing.

There is also possibility to do airfoil design.
The QFLR5 version also works on Linux.

Can it simulate reynolds numbers high enough to simulate say a corporate-jet or a fighter-jet?

BTW: At the penalty of sounding retarded... can you simulate an airframe with this?

i don't think....real scale is possible, but a little bug on "area weigth"....
just made for gliders analyses....
have you got tested it for jets concepts...????

Well, you can use any Reynolds number in the polars, it's just a frontend for Xfoil. And even mach and air density too. I don't know precisely the methods. I'm pretty certain you have to remain well below transonic.

In the 3d analysis you can build a primitive body too, I don't know how well that is taken into account in the calculations, it's probably more of a coarse notional thing.

if the 2D calculations are run by XFOIL, then you must definitely remain subsonic. I believe there is a version of XFOIL, MSES, that does transonic flow. How accurately, i do not know.
