Never during the XB-70 flight test program did the two fly in formation together. Wouldn't it be nice to see an illustration of these two in flight together... -SP

Yes it would.

Or a whole wing of them on the ground at a SAC AFB.

Or a scramble scene.

Or preparing one of the X-plane launcher variants or space launcher variants.
(one of the papers from JH-APL proposed a hypersonic vehicle to be launched
from the XB-70 - a portrayal of that would be nice).

So yes, I agree.

Or we ask an interested artist, or comission one, to do it.

Some of this was done back in the time of the XB-70 itself.

For example, the box art on the now collector edition of the original
Aurora XB-70 kit, which portrayed a winter scene and prepping an
XB-70. This is what I mean by art that inspires you to buy what the
art is attached to.

That's interesting!

I'd like to spread them out a little.

Cool!

Was this just done for us?

Yep.

But doctoring aircraft photos is one of my hobbies, really... I have a whole gallery of imaginary aircraft on the What If forum, and you would certainly enjoy quite a few of the pics there. I have also started a website that recaps all of my creations (over 130 so far) with thumbnails and backup stories. Here's where you can find it: http://aviadesign.online.fr/main-2010.htm

Please let me know if you've liked it (or not)!

Thanks Steve!!! ;)

Well, yeah. But since there never were three B-70s, I figured it would be more convincing to pretend these were production B-70A articles procured circa 1973. Sorry for whiffing around... :-X

Yeah, I see what you mean. They look like they're flying too close to one another. I'll see what I can do...

As far as operational serial numbers go they should be a bit shorter - 32204, 32205 and 32206 for example. -SP

As an example of some of the cool images that existed back in the
time of the XB-70, there is this neat book I got in the early 1960's:
"B-70 Monarch of the Skies" by Charles Coombs (illustrated by
Lou Paleno) (pub. 1962). It was a young person's book, but had very
cool images that I loved as a kid, and still do (still a kid!) !!

I scanned some just for you Stevo and some of the other XB-70/B-70
freaks around here.

Not sure how many of you have seen this book.

Cool but I wish the scans were larger... -SP

Sure, let's go bigger. I blew the max allowed posting size already once.
Let's try these.

No big deal, but I thought the limit was ~1.5MB per attachment. While nice, these aren't even close. Or did I miss something?

You'll notice there were only two larger images, not three like on the original post.
I tried to add the third larger cover image (in color) but when I did, it blew the size.
I was also cramped for time, so I just said to hell with it and posted those two.

If you guys want the color image from the cover in bigger form, let me know and I can
work it tonight when I have more time.

By the way, this book is for young people, (which I was at the time), but as of last night,
there was 2 of them available at amazon for like around $4-$6 a piece. There is more of
Lou's art in them. I think I captured the more interesting pieces for this audience, but you
never know.

Good to hear from you again DSE !!

Thanks. Well I guess the US interpretation of "Maximum attachment size allowed: 1500 KB, per post: 8 " is not correct. I would interpret this as attachments up to 1.5 MB are allowed and a total of 8 of the preceding, not a maximum of up to 8 attachments totaling 1.5MB. So be it. Maybe it's a UK/US thing. Sorry.

Who needs Dynasoar, Aerospaceplane or ISINGLASS when the B-70 can fly into orbit ? :p
