What would an A-6F or A-7F like upgrade to the F-111 look like?

I can imagine Australian Super Hornets may not have happened if their F-111s had APG-71 and AMRAAM. JORN Phase 4/5 certainly become much more interesting.
Not a chance! Supporting Australia's small fleet without the ability to 'lean on' the USAF support base was economically and practically impossible for any longer than they did. It wouldn't matter if the radars were changed.

By the time they were retired the RAAFs F111s were the most maintenance intensive tactical aircraft if the world.
 
And that was with an extensive industrial support network in country.

All the way down to electroplating, and specialist clocks I recall the transition to the Super Hornet meant a number of small businesses closed up. The specialist clocks bloke was in his 70s at the end.
