I always ponder how far Mil has gone with Tilt Rotor efforts. There are video's of course that purport to show what was the most mature of designs, but I have suspicions toward the validity of the claims made.
The Mi-40 was for me a spectacular concept and I must have taken 50 pictures of the model that was shown at the Paris Airshow in 1989(?). It struck me as a very reasonable method to introduce an Airborne Infantry Fighting Vehicle. Something that at the time was very near to my thoughts on rotorcraft warfare.

By the way, for those who did not know, there was a project of a ship-based helicopter based on the Mi-24. with two sponsons with weapons. (illustration also by E.R. Molchanova) There was a similar idea for the "Lamprey" at the initial stage, but the sponsons show themselves very poorly in flight.

Seem, that these renders and illustrations have some curious clue to the date of their making, as well as the artist' logo.
Just check this fragment below:

• ochre digits 080466 means 08 April 1966
• letters, surrounded by arcs - logo.

Some other concept arts also contain these elements, scattered across helicopters' surfaces, mostly on the tail
