Time to go full speculative. So it is the story of the Etendard, Super-Mystère and Mirage extended families. Who decides to breed between them.
It all started in 1956. The SMB-2, Etendard IV-01 and Mirage III-01 which all flew that year found they had essentially the same engine in a similar "rump". They all ran on Atar 101G except the Etendard which had the non-afterburning 101G called 101E.
And so they hybrided - like tigers and lions, donkeys and horses, goats and sheeps.
Hybrids of Mirage and Etendards are known as ETRANGE or MIRANDA (ETRAGE and MIRANDARD, polished into better names).
Hybrids of Mirages and SMB-2 are SIMBAD, SIMBA and SAMBA. With such names they were sold to Middleast countries, Kenya and Brazil, obviously.
So whatif the Etendard IVM had a one night stand with a Mirage III, and the offspring was supersonic ?
Same for the next generation, with Super Etendard sleeping with a Mirage F1.
And then the grand old SMB-2 grew despaired not having children, so a Mirage III helped it, and the end result were tailed deltas not unlike MiG-21s.
Later the Mirage F1 did the same, but the SMB-2 found those wings a little short for its taste. But that what it took to hit Mach 2.
Then the Etendard IV too breeded with a Mirage III.
And then the pornfest extend to other fast jets such as the Tornado, and the Mirage 3000 was born.
