Gallica is the online library provided by the BnF (Bibliothèque Nationale de France).
It gathers in one place the digital collections, not only its own, but also those of other entities that have contributed to it.
The "real" BnF is located at the Bibliothèque François Mitterrand (the four ugly towers located in the 13th Paris sector, by the river Seine).
For all of us who can't access their physical collections, they've scanned an impressive amount of material that they graciously offer for consultation, sometimes even download. There is also some material that can only be downloaded for a price (hence the basket icon); however, a vast amount of the contents is free. There are of course copyright restrictions, which they are compelled to indicate from a legal viewpoint; however, cropping an image here or an article there is not the same as copying an entire book and sharing it elsewhere, so there shouldn't be any trouble if you share stuff here, especially from the very old aviation magazines.
I could have used another language version of the site for my tutorial, but I have left it in my own native language since I do not know if the translations provided are accurate and helpful.
Once you've performed your search, you get a results page that looks typically like this:
The interface is very rich, therefore it may look complicated, but once you get the jist of it, it's quite simple and intuitive enough.
Once you've selected a specific publication for display, you get a screen that looks somewhat like this:

If you choose to download a specific page, here is how to do it:
- Click on the "download icon in the right side bar";
- Select the format you want for download (PDF for the whole document, JPEG for a high-res page scan, TXT for plain text);
- Once you've selected JPEG, you can choose if you want the full image, just part of it in high-res, or part of it as displayed;
- You need to tick the disclaimer box for each download (it's a bit of a pain, but it's obligatory);
- Click download and enjoy!
