Anyone else ever hear of this deployment? Or did the hippies from my first link just make it up?

Noam Choamsky is somebody I respect and would believe something would be probable if he is the one saying it . 1947 fits in the timeframe of reported unidentified submarine sightings around Argentina , one of them actually towed by another and there is talk of USN patrol aircraft dropping depth charges. Though one must be real careful , this can quickly degenerate into a discussion of Antarctica as a military power . You wouldn't like the answers .

A Nuclear Threat in 1947?

I find it hard to believe that the US would base it's premier military deterrent outside of stable allied nations. I find it even harder to believe that anyone thought it necessary - a few conventional bombers would do for showing the flag.

I´m from Uruguay.
That´s non sense.
What bombers?
The only bomber with nuclear capacity in service in the USAF in 1947 was the B-29.
That plane never flew to this country, the B-36 only overfly Uruguay but not in 1947 and
by sure that it not carries any nuclear bomb.
