The "Semi-jet stratoplane" concept was developed by Konstantin E. Tsiolkovsky since 1929, and finally described in his book of the same name which was published in 1932. By the way, Tsiolkovsky died 78 years old in 1935 - so he couldn't develop the Stratoplane up to 1943 anyway.

The picture 2-1 represents two different designs; and it's not very correct to call them "Soviet", because both were created in the times of Russian Empire. The "jet blimp" from the top is most probably the airship designed in 1866 by Vice Admiral Nikolai M. Sokovnin (by the way, Sokovnin referred to it as Vozdushnyi Korabl - literally "airship"), although the picture isn't much similar to Sokovnin's original drawings. Sokovnin planned to propel his airship by the power of compressed air stream which is expulsed from a pair of nozzles. The airship itself wasn't actually a blimp, but of rigid type; it would be made from steel tubes, bamboo, and special sort of cardboard. It was 50 meters long, its volume would be 2535 m3, weight 2623 kg, useful load about 1367 kg. Sokovnin planned to use ammonia as lifting gas, placing it in 12 gas cells. In the attachments there are some pictures of Sokovnin airship and a photo of the inventor himself.

The drawings in the lower part of 2-1 picture aren't related to the airship. They represent the concept of motorjet-powered aircraft invented by Eng. Alexander Gorokhov (not Gorochev) in 1911 and described in his article Future Mechanical Flight.

Thank you my dear Redstar72,

This one is totally new for me. I never heard before that Yuriev designed something other than helicopters and VTOLs. I'll try to find more info.

According to the article, this project is dated 1936.

Thank you Harry,

but please,where it exactly,direct link.

Hi again

Profuse apologies -- I'm not sure I can do that (I am trying). I had stumbled over a Russian space history site which mentioned (in English) that there existed a model of Tsiolkovsky's rocket plane in a museum there and sent me to the site above. I cannot decipher this page (it appears to be a children's museum) and I haven't been able to locate the site which referenced it... Harry

i used Google Translate on some links and came to this

the Stratoplan by Konstantin E. Tsiolkovsky, the Rocket pioneer

In 1932, Tsiolkovsky published a paper on a "Stratoplan Semi-Reactive"

In this work, Tsiolkovsky advanced the idea of using in the plane not only the pulling force of the propeller, but also the force of recoil (reaction)
of the exhaust gases generated by the operation of the aircraft engine.
Extremely interesting design solution stratoplan Tsiolkovsky.
The air screw and the motor he proposes to place in the fuselage - a cigar-shaped body, and for the crew to build separate hermetic gondolas.
This idea Tsiolkovsky was widely used by designers later.
Look at the scheme of the modern stratoplan with jet engines: it is very similar to the one proposed by the remarkable scientist.

OK Snark, and many thanks to you my dear Michel.

From Aviation magazine 1956.

The last image (2-56-229.png ) shows "Le projet d'aile volante bireacteur de B.N.Iouriev (1936)" which is probably the B.N. Yuriev design for a flying wing with jet engines. Although best known for helicopter designs, in the 1930s, Boris Yuryev had taken part in setting up the Moscow Aviation Institute and worked at TsAGI Zhukovsky. An article from the August 1953 magazine flying is attached with more detail.
