That's my point. Why would you send 200k when your adversary is at least that size and units of your adversary have been training and deploying with NATO.

If the Russians were 'all-in' they would have amassed at least 300k if not more.

Currently they are holding back, but there are signs this is ending.

"President Joe Biden is set to speak with NATO leaders later today, while reports suggest Ukraine's Defense Minister will meet with Russian officials near the Belarus border for talks aimed at brokering at least a near-term ceasefire."

A good summary. I've grown with Europe up and downs since aged 10 in 1992; and learned what was wrong (and good) with the whole thing over the next 30 years.

In no particular order:

"Europe is not united, Europe is weak, Europe is dependant and too conciliant with Russia, Europe is dependant from NATO, europe has integrated too many new countries from 12 to 28 and ruined itself, Europe is a loose economical coalition rather than a united block" - and on, and on. Most of these critics were certainly valid, yet at the same time, it seemed nothing would change for real.

And then over the span of last week, the European Union has become unrecognizable. It has done truly unbelievable things. WTF WTH, and God only knows where all this will drive it (worst case: Putin becomes enraged and nuke the damn thing).

Putin seems to have achieved the impossible: energizing and galvanizing and enraging the European Union.

The European Union was a bad idea. It's about money and not about free and sovereign countries. It tried to dictate to Poland a size limit on cucumbers.
 
From today's Wall Street Journal:

"Both delegations said the meeting led to some progress ahead of the next round of talks, as Moscow poured large reinforcement convoys across the border. At least 10 civilians were killed and more than 40 injured in Kharkiv, with the toll likely to increase."
 
Looks like some Ukraine government websites are down. Has this been from the beginning? Seems like it would not be difficult to get them transferred to the cloud and protected from ddos attacks. Anybody know anybody?

Jen Psaki from the White House as reported on CNN today.

The administration is also doubling down on the decision not to use US troops to create a no-fly zone in Ukraine, calling it “not a good idea” and "not something the President wants to do."

The implementation of a no-fly zone by the US military “would essentially mean the US military would be shooting down planes, Russian planes," Psaki said. “That is definitely escalatory that would potentially put us into a place where we're in a military conflict with Russia.

US President Joe Biden will talk about the situation in Ukraine during his State of the Union address on Tuesday, she confirmed.

Biden would talk about “the fact that the President has built a coalition of countries around the world to stand up to Russian aggression, to stand up to President Putin, to put in place crippling sanctions, that will be a part of what people will hear in the speech. That wouldn't have been the case three months ago,” she said.

“If we look back at history,” she continued, “President Obama gave a speech during the worst financial crisis of our lifetime. President Bush gave a speech shortly after the worst terrorist attack on our homeland ever. It's always about expressing how you're going to lead the country.”

She said there would be new policy proposals in the speech.

This is emblematic of the situation the Russian forces are facing. A request was made by Tweet on Saturday the 26th. Decision making, transfer time, loading time, at least a 10-12 hour charter flight from Texas to Poland, transfer time, time to border, then it's probably a 10 hour drive from the Polish border to Kyiv for a truck.

When you're opponent can supply or resupply from 6k miles away in less than two days you're in a tight spot.

Logistics may not win wars but without it you just don't have a chance.

I don't know if this is accurate (can't open the link), but if true perhaps this finally gives some inkling of the air part of things. It appears at least 3 UkAF fighters shot down with the 3 pilots KIA, at least one of which was a Su-27 (Oksanchenko). They claim 2 kills in return.

So perhaps Su-30SM and/or Su-35 got their first kills afterall, i guess in a sort of fratricidal way, but as the americans say of such things, a kill is a kill.
 
I saw claims this is fake news, all the claimed "donors" Bulgaria, Slovakia and even Poland refute any such thing apparently. Wouldn't be surprised.

Perhaps, but here is a lead up story from yesterday. If Bulgaria and Slovakia are not willing it seems highly likely the Polish government is on board.
