Remember reading a book titled,' Vectored Propulsion, Supermaneuverability and Robot Aircraft', Prof Benjamin Gal-Or, Springer Verlag 1991, sometime in the 90s where models of F-16/F-15 with vectored propulsion nozzles were tested. I was in my last year of college and had no business with such books since I was a History major. Well, it happened to be in a pile of books which were waiting to be returned to their respective shelves. There was a website detailing these projects, sadly it is down.

In the AI 9/1999 was a concept of a UCAV which had remarkable similarities
to the F-16 .

The same image appeared in a FlugRevue issue around the same time and was specifically indentified as a converted F-16.

The caption on the photo in the Flightglobal website specifically states the RPV is a 30% scale model of the F-16 used for spin and stall testing. Better to lose a model than a full-scale prototype.

If I remember correctly, these were to be based on mothballed F-16A's that have been sitting in storage unused for a while (thus bought and paid for). A larger wing is swapped in, and the cockpit area suitably modified. It was intended to be an interim UCAV with a known supply chain and low cost, and a suitable rig to test more advanced concepts for ground up designed UCAV's.

Hesham,

I can't see what's the nexus between your post and the topic? ???

Oh, I deleted another picture of that F-16 model only a few days ago... The same kind of model was used also during the F-15 development. Regarding the UCAV version, its another story. I mentioned it here several times, try to find "F-16 DR IUCAV". (dual role interim UCAV)

Those type of models used to be known as 'boilerplates'. If you're talking about RPV air drop test models that is.
