The Rings of Earth

Politicize? Heck! Yeah. If these rings actually existed, there'd be conflicts between the nations to decide where exactly THEIR share of it starts and where it ends...

Anyway, it's a nice video, thanks for sharing. I believe that if real, the rings would make quite a few orbital trajectories impossible for satellites and rockets...

Basically *any* orbit that passes through the altitudes occupied by the rings would intersect at some point with the rings. Of course, if you are on the *same* orbit with the rings, then your relative volocity compared to the ring particles would be pretty minimal, and thus impacts would be less of a concern. You might still need to build your spacecraft like a battleship, of course, as you can't just magically appear in an orbit, you need to *get* *there* first.

Orbits below the minimum ring altitude, and orbits above the maximum ring altitude would be more or less free and clear.

An Earth-based ring system might never be as "clean," as distinct, as the Saturn ring system. Earths moon and the sun would pull on them with much greater relative force than the moons of Saturn and the sun do there. So we might wind up with "fuzzy" rings.

Billions of years ago we could have had some kind of fuzzy rings, but they weren't stable and pretty soon were cought by the earth and the moon. We still have 2 other small moons orbiting the Earth, some scientists believe that they wore parts of those ancients rings(or perhaps clouds?).

If you are referring to Cruithne, the only credible scientific evidence shows it is an asteroid, and its orbit is not even around the Earth, but around both the sun and the Lagrange L-2 point. I feel that calling this another moon, or even a quasi-satellite is a bit of a stretch. I've also never heard of another secondary moon, except perhaps the S-IVB stage of AS-507 (Apollo 12), which re-entered Earth orbit during 2002-2003, but has since been ejected.

I did read it in some magazine some time ago, but reading some more on different sites on the internet, showed this the be false.
I should have checked my sources :)
