The article quotes a source in China who states the battery is ready for production now. The implications of such a battery go beyond electric cars to energy storage for wind and solar farms, and if suitable, as power for space vehicles.

What became of it?

Batteries don't only die from cycles, but also from aging, so an avarage car and battery would need to last for about40 Years.

I had to scrapp my last car after about 440.000 km/18 years because of corrosion, the engine/gearbox etc were still doing fine. My current car (a friend is using it, becsuse I'm in China) has now reached about 425.000 km and is 20years old. It runs fine, but its CNG tanks are limited to 20 years of age, this will be the end. The engine shows no signs of weakness and I never refilled oil between the over 20.000 km oil change intervalls.

It doesnt really make sense to maximize the lifespan of any propulsion system, as long as the rest isnt built for it. Unfortunately, the video says nothing about calendric aging.

Running on CNG really does keep engine oil incredibly clean and aids the longevity of the engine in general. It’s a great motor vehicle fuel but in North America, only Honda was very serious about it with multiple generations of the Honda Civic GX. However, many North American 3/4 ton and up pickup trucks offer the plumbing for a CNG unfit, but not the tank, for only only $400 as a factory option. I’d have no hesitation converting the world’s diesel fleet to CNG, including Class 8 trucks and agricultural tractors. I don’t know about the 20 year lifespan of CNG tanks? Is that merely a regulatory issue?

The 20 years is a Europeen regulatory issue (ECE 115). Before that, you had to pressure test the tank after 15 years, but than is was good for another 15 years. Unfortunately, this is no longer possible and CNG fell out of favour in the politics.

Indeed, the oil looked like new after 20.000 + x kilometer. I believe, the engine (Opel C16YNG) could very well reach 1 million Kilometers, but the CNG future is to uncertain to invest a substantiel amount of money into the car..

My prefered gas station offers selfmade CNG from Horses and cows in the neighborhood, I hope they will continue to do so.

(Deleted). Sorry, I thought you were talking about the horses and cows.
