I have the Soviet X planes (recommended), so the quick answers are:

1. overtaken by later designs
2. two Mikoyan K-9 (R-38) missiles
3. yes

Some more info and graphic here:

Maybe the main reason for T-37 cancelling was the "rocket mania" which peak was at the very same time. Financial and other resources were redeployed in favour of rocket and space technologies. On January 29, 1960 Petr Dementyev, the Chairman of State Committee for Aviation Technics, tendered to D.F.Ustinov (who was the Chairman of Military Industry Commission of USSR Ministerial Council) a list of aviation development works which "lost their actuality" and became an object for cancelling. And T-37 was mentioned in this list. Already on February 5, by the Government's decree, all works on T-37 aircraft and R-38 missiles were stopped.

Greetings,

In the link above it is mentioned that both Sukhoi and Mikoyan started working on a project, as we know Sukhoi came up with the T-37, But what was Mikoyan Design for this Competition?

Regards,
AK
