Hi

Well this project looks interesting: the first all metal project aircraft for the USN but very few information is available at least online.

The small pic is from: http://aerofiles.com/_stout.html

and the second one from this book:

http://books.google.com.ar/books?id=H35YzdyTpDcC&lpg=PA28&dq=stout%20%22st-1%22&pg=PA28#v=onepage&q=stout%20%22st-1%22&f=false

Anyone has more information? Maybe a 3d view :) ?

Regards
Luis

I seem to remember that the Stout ST-1 was the competitor of the Fokker FT-1:

More pics of the ST-1. This is said to have been the first all-metal U. S. airplane.

George Prudden was chief engineer on the ST-1 (he also helped on the design of Stout's Model 1-AS Air Sedan). Development took two years, which was extremely long by contemporary standards and shows the complexity of the design for that time. First flight was by Eddie Stinson in April 1922.

Six were ordered by the Navy as A-5899 to A-5904, but the last three were cancelled, as well as all prospects for a possible production version, when the first prototype stalled and crashed during the acceptance ceremony.
