Do you know the correct designation of this forrunner (LSh/SPB?)? Both pics show the some aircraft?

It was (the mockup) observed by US spysat during 1973; with one analyst remarking that it reminded him of the of the Navy's A-4 Skyhawk. Thats when the Soviets use to roll-out mockups to fool Ameican spysats.

The earliest studies were done by Sukhoi before "official" interest, Feb/March 1968, and officially designated in June 1968 as SPB (Samolyot Polya Boya, Battlefield Aircraft) with the T-8 production name. These included the earliest version of the above layout plus other layouts like a twin boom one.

In early 1969, an official requirement was formulated and announced in May 1969 as LSSh. Sukhoi's favoured SPB design was submitted to the LSSh requirement.

So both designations are correct.

Scans appear to be from Ildar Bedretdinov's The Attack Aircraft Su-25 and its Derivatives (B & Co, 2002)

A history can be found in Soviet Secret Projects: Bombers.
Not a bad looking concept and its interesting to see how much like the Su-25 it is. It actually looks quite Western in appearance and quite a radical departure from the supersonic MiG-27s then in service.

That photo with the "dudes" in sunglasses makes me laugh, were they attempting to look Western or uber-cool? ;D Just doesn't work at a mock-up roll out and I can't imagine it impressing the VVS Marshalls who didn't even approve of this project.

Very interesting look at the 'Frogfoot`s` development history, with some great mock-up pictures!

Does any one know what the `LSSh` designation stands for?

The twin boom configuration sounds neat.

Quick question: Are the pictures at the start of this thread before or after the first scaling up of the design (i.e. are they the 19 sq. m. wing or the 28 sq.m. wing?).

Note: There was a second scaling up of the design from 28 sq.m. which lead to the >30 sq.m. wing production version? I'm referring specifically to whether the pictures are mockups of the first (1969, 19 sq.m.) version.

*edit* Okay, I'm pretty sure the mockup is the 19 sq. m. version from just eyeballing it.

Just found this:

Images from a 1994 book on the Su-25 Frogfoot. written by the same person who wrote the edition mentioned in Pioneer & Flateric's post - perhaps this is an earlier edition than his?

Nice....Very nice thank you Cy-27
In its size and configuration, the Sukhoi LSSh mock-up, almost looks like the size and configuration of a single-seat Alpha Jet, except obviously more specialised!
