Another ridiculous, embarrassing and costly cock-up by Australian Defence acquisition process:

But, it could transport a Leopard 2A4 or a Leopardo 2E

Neither the Australian Department of Defence nor Navantia should be relying on Wikipedia for the weight of the tank these craft have to carry. The actual weight, not the tank type or anything like that, should have been clearly laid down in the tender.

My weight for the M1a1 (AIM) comes from the Australian Army website. I merely supplied them so people could have an idea of what weights are being discussed. I suspect that the actual vehicle operational weights would be up to 5 or more tonnes greater than what is stated.

To simplify the discussion, all tank weights should be quoted with full combat load: full fuel, ammo, crew, rations, spare parts, etc.

For comparison, aircraft certification numbers and performance numbers are always based upon maximum take-off weight, standard atmosphere, etc.
