Why does the shuttle have such a high landing speed (220 kts about)?

The plane has thick wings with blunt leading-edges, and being a double-delta, yields substantial vortex-lift effects, and and it has no fuel onboard...

one reason is the shuttle is the heavy glider in world with 86084 kg
an nother reason for landing with 340 km/h is no engine and flaps on delta wing.
