Shotgun starters (for aircraft, tanks, etc.)

One of my Mom's brothers served aboard the carrier "Ranger" (CV-4) throughout WW2 and brought home a shotgun starter from a Wildcat. It appears to be about a 4-gauge equivalent. It's far and away the biggest "shotgun" breakopen breech I've ever seen...
