Closeup of the reinforced landing gear for the J-15T carrier based fighter.Having a catapult capable fighter is not just about adding a launch bar on the front landing gear. Many people simplify airplanes while not realizing how complex it actually is.

I heard that J-15T empty weight is 17.5 tons, whereas Su-33 empty weight is 18.4 tons and Su-35S empty weight is 19.3 tons. Can someone tell me why J-15T is so light comparatively?

As far as I know, the Chinese Flankers employ much more composite materials in their construction than their Russia counterparts. Additionally, Chinese electronics, being generally more advanced, are likely to be lighter than their Russian analogues.

There is no precedent for a Chinese aircraft being lighter than its Russian counterpart.
The two WS-10H engines mounted on the J-15 alone weigh over 400 kilograms more than the Su-33's AL-31F Series 3. Furthermore, the Su-35 not only utilizes composite materials extensively but also eliminated the airbrake. The overall weight increase of the Su-35 was caused by structural strengthening and the installation of L-band radars,Internal fuel capacity was also increased from 9.4 to 11.5 tons (which consequently increased the dead weight of the fuel system and tanks), and each AL-41F1S engine weighs 82 kilograms more than the AL-31F.
which is an inevitable consequence of aircraft upgrades. There has never been a precedent of an aircraft becoming lighter as it gets upgraded··········
It is a universal rule that aircraft weight increases with every upgrade cycle, as seen with the F-16, F-15, F-18, Su-27, MiG-29, and MiG-31

It does not. That was the whole point, to stick to well understood materials and do other things.
Mig did things China did (gradually increasing use of composites in existing 4th gen airframe), but it did so with a significant lag behind China for corresponding % stages.

The author of this book has probably been observing the PLA for decades, and I believe you can find a lot of interesting stuff in his book.I'm sure this book is worth it.

Well, IMO it is a good book (a very good one) and also the only one covering the Chinese Flankers as its main focus!

However I must admit that regarding the J-15T, the information is somewhat outdated by now, as the book was published (Nov 2022) before the aircraft was confirmed as the J-15T (Nov 2024) in PLAN service—it was still being referred then to as the J-15B at the time. However, I think that is acceptable—unless, of course, one is interested solely in the J-15T... In any case, additional units have since converted to the "Sino-Flankers," and therefore I plan to release an updated one exclusively as an e-book.

...but not the fact that this particular J-15T (whether it's a pre-production prototype or a production unit) that's carrying the AShMs already uses WS-10H(2)s.

Just a side note, we all know that during military parades, planes in formations are painted with red and yellow stripes to make the formations easier to see. But initially, the navy wanted to use blue and white stripes, which are more representative of the navy, but later found it didn't look good, so they abandoned it.
