I love the guy crucified on a punch card.:D

I was just watching a youtube vid on an old early 70s digital tuner that could have its stations selected via punch card,the manufacturer even supplied you with blanks & a hole punch.
There was also a punch card based musical instrument tuner,evidently this was the go to piece of kit if you were into lutes or harpsichords,& a mid 70s analogue synthesizer,the SynKey,that used punch cards.

Not to derail the discussion, but I fer sure would appreciate a gundam (i.e. a dam against guns, that is) in pressurized cylinder space colonies...

I'd posted the covers to the first three volumes of Mick Farren's 'DNA Cowboys' series in Post #866, here is the cover without the titling for the third volume, 'The Neural Atrocity' (1977). I'd say the artist must have been watching the iconic 1950s film 'Forbidden Planet' before painting this one.

Frank Frazetta in non-'Heroic Fantasy' mode on the cover of the 1964 Lancer Books edition of John Wyndham's 1935 novel 'The Secret People' which was first published using the pseudonym John Benyon. For what it's worth the authors full name was John Wyndham Parkes Lucas Beynon Harris from which he derived several psudonyms throughout his career.

The premise is that a terraforming crew wants to seed a planet with evolved monkeys to prepare the way for later human settlers. Things go very awry, and it's jumping spiders that get the 'uplift' virus instead. Over centuries, and partly under the guidance of an increasingly deranged AI in the orbiting ship, they grow in size and develop a technological civilisation. Tchaikovsky later wrote sequels featuring octopuses, crows and mantis shrimps.

ISFDB only has publication data on the US versions: Doubleday and Doubleday/SFBC in 1973 and 1974 respectively.
