RAF Helensburgh flew a model of the World's first jet flying boat the Saunders-Roe A1 on the Gareloch. This photograph is from my files on the Marine Aircraft Experimental Establishment The solid fuel jet powered model aircraft was perfectly scaled and built by chippies under guidance from boffins. It was radio controlled from the shore. The debut flight was by experienced test pilot John Pare and the model crashed on turning to the dismay of spectators. Chippies rebuilt it for a second successful flight.
