Hi Hesham!

RWD-12 was proposed in 1933 as a replacement to Lublin R-XIII, but with the same 220-hp Wright engine it wasn't much better. Therefore it was rejected by Polish AF. Then RWD team proposed a new, more advanced and powerful project - RWD-14 Czapla (Heron) which later came into series.

RWD-18 and RWD-25 prototypes were under construction when the Nazis invaded Poland in September 1939. If the war didn't begin, RWD-18 could be flown in December 1939 and RWD-25 fighter in middle 1940.

RWD-22 floatplane was also planned to fly in 1940; Marynarka Wojenna (the Polish navy) planned to order 12 aircraft of this type. The land version, RWD-24, had also more powerful engines - two 700-hp Gnome-Rhone 14M Mars radials, while RWD-22 was powered by 430/470-hp PZL G-1620 bis Mors B or 400-hp P&W Wasp Junior 8B. RWD-24 was a counterpart for a light bomber projected by PWS.

Technical data for RWD-18 (calculated):
Wing span - about 13 m
Length - about 9.5 m
Wing area - about 20 m2
Empty weight - 970 kg
Takeoff weight - 1500 kg
Powerplant - two Cirrus Major 4-cylinder engines, 138/150 hp each
Crew - 5 (2 pilots, 3 passengers)
Maximum speed - 270 km/h
Cruise speed - 230 km/h
Landing speed - 80 km/h
Vertical speed - 4.5 m/s
Service ceiling - 4500 m
Flight range - 600 km

Technical data for RWD-22 (calculated):
Wing span - 18.0 m
Length - 13.8 m
Wing area - 40.0 m2
Empty weight - 2600 kg
Takeoff weight - 4300 kg (4620 kg with torpedo)
Powerplant - two PZL G-1620 bis 7-cylinder radials, 430/470 hp each
Crew - 3
Maximum speed - 290 km/h
Cruise speed - 250 km/h (at 1500 m altitude)
Landing speed - 93 km/h
Vertical speed - 4.8 m/s
Service ceiling - 5500 m
Flight range - 1100 km (max. 2530 km)
Armament - two 7.9-mm machine guns, bombs (24x 12.5 kg or 4x 100 kg) or torpedo (1x 750 kg)

Technical data for RWD-25 (calculated):
Wing span - 10.5 m
Length - 7.0 m
Wing area - 14.0 m2
Empty weight - 1350 kg
Takeoff weight - 1800 kg
Powerplant - one Gnome-Rhone 14M-05 14-cylinder double radial, 660/730 hp
Crew - 1
Maximum speed - 460 km/h
Vertical speed - 10 m/s
Service ceiling - 8000 m
Flight range - 450 km (max. 750 km)
Armament - four wing-mounted 7.9-mm machine guns

In my ongoing research into my father's company Long Sault Woodcraft, where they made radomes for the DEW Line and Pinetree lines in Canada, I found out that George (Jerzy) Drzewiecki worked at NRC in Ottawa Canada with my father and was also a frequent visitor at Long Sault on radome matters.

See attached article from The Ottawa Citizen (May 17, 1990) mentioning some of his achievements. The 2nd attached file is a screenshot of a memoir written by George Escher (who was an Engineer at Long Sault) with first hand account of Jerzy's accident.

The British government made him a Member of the Order of the British Empire for his service as n Allied ferry pilot.

Enjoy!
