Model of Kamov V-100.

I know it's an old post, but a general question about V-100:

Wouldn't the gas turbines' exhaust stream badly affect the pusher prop blades at the tail (vibrations)?

wow, quite a scary concept.
It might need a lot of material science :)

Another attempt at Mi-40 or 42?

Hello,

There is already a thread for the V-60 and the Mi-22 and Mi-36 are mentioned in passing in a couple of threads but I thought we could do with a central location for:

The first competition:
- Mi-22
- Mi-24 (single engined)
- Ka-25F

Kamov
- V-50
- V-60 (and undesignated variants)
- V-100

Mil
- Mi-36
- Mi-40
- Mi-42

And possibly unknown facets of transport and gunship derivatives (not so secret):
- Mi-8
- Ka-29
- Mi-2US/URP
- Mi-24 door gunners or field mods
Hi! Mi-24 tail gunner.

one of early projects of Kamov
It seem to have two pairs of propulsion systems, one turboshaft and the other is a forwards jet engine. However, I must say that I doubt the aircraft of being a real idea by Kamov, because the placement of rotors make no sense for presumably a military aircraft. Normal helicopters have the rotor mast, a weakpoint of any helicopter, directly above the fuselage, whose components (fuel) are directly under. Even if no, the armor would grant protection for the rotor mast, making it not hittable from below. On that project the rotors are quite vulnerable. They should've gone for a contrarotating rotor as of that of the Ka-50 and earlier Kamov designs. Secondly, given the placement of turbines directly under each rotor, this might suggest that the two rotors are not mechanically linked, making RPM control hard and the aircraft extremely dangerous. Also, such a system is more dangerous than the traditional way of letting multiple engines feed the same driveshaft, as the aircraft would have asymmetrical thrust if one engine fails instead of simply reduced power (I've once heard that combat helicopters can still fly on one engine). In conclusion, this honestly does not look very real, however, it has elements from what Kamov's been always experimenting with for half a century: transverse multi rotor helicopters and a "booster" jet engine. It helps if more information could be given about the drawing, which could have been simple an early idea of a project which was made before the major revisions.
