...Actually, old buddy, this begs the question as to whether you've ever come across any concept diagrams of how McD was going to handle the EVA hatcn on a Mercury. It would *have* to be outward-opening, but the real issue is whether the hinges would have to be outside due to space constraints.

I've putting together some notes for a possible AH, (who am I kidding, notes yes, but sitting down to actually write something? Oh look! Another shiney! ) where NASA uses this jumbled together with some other ideas :::cough:::::TASSEL::::cough::: to match and beat some of the earlier Soviet flights with the much more limited Mercury capsule. This will help a lot.

...Actually, old buddy, this begs the question as to whether you've ever come across any concept diagrams of how McD was going to handle the EVA hatch on a Mercury. It would *have* to be outward-opening, but the real issue is whether the hinges would have to be outside due to space constraints.

Late as usual but I suspect it would take a complete hatch redesign from scratch to get the Mercury hatch to work. If there were some way to "move" the parachutes and some of the other recovery gear housed in the nose it "might" be possible to use the "Mercury Spacecraft Escape Hatch" in some way, which is what I'm fooling around with, but I'm not sure you could actually get the regular hatch to work.
