Fascinating...I'm just curious....How would twin tails affect the delta wing configuration? Or perhaps canards, even? I just recieved an inspiration .

That's close. What I was thinking was keeping the original planform at the top of the thread. But canting the tails outward, a la F/A-18 or the Iranian Shageh. And maybe, just maybe, have them project a little futher out past the tail a little bit, a la F-22.

Well there are four distinct wing designs displayed in these pics. The first one shows low delta wings (72-4474,-4477), the second one shows high-rooted delta wings in pretty much the same fashion as the much earlier N-102 Fang project (72-8168/8169). The third one has swept-wings, indeed (72-4476,-4478). The fourth one has straight wings in a high position, much like the F-104 but longer (72-8122/8123).

Not sure where to put this so I'll start here... I picked up this model at an estate sale this morning - the late Col. (retired) Charles A. Scolatti. Interesting....

Colonel Charles A. Scolatti, Chief of ARL's Operations Office, assumed Colonel Atkinson's former position as deputy commander of ARL[...] From 1952 to 1954 he attended the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) Engineering Sciences Program. Upon graduation Col. Scolatti was assigned as an aeronautical research engineer and project scientist in the ARL Fluid Dynamics Branch. He left ARL in 1958 to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.). In 1960 M.I.T. awarded him the Master of Science and E.A A. degrees in aeronautics and astronautics. He has also been awarded a Master's degree in international affairs by George Washington university, Washington, D. C. Col. Scolatti then served as Chief of the Research Planning Division, Directorate of Plans at Headquarters OAR from July 1960 to July 1964. He spent the next year at the Air War College, Maxwell AFB, Alabama and came to ARL immediately after graduation.

Dear @Mark Nankivil, are on this model only the "canards" or also the nose section / forward fuselage movable?

It looks like a Lee Begin thing. He was always coming up with models you could pull apart and reconfigure to show how easy it would be! I am sure you can pull off the nose cap, remove the canards and that piece on top, and refit the nose cap. Voila' an unmodifed F-5B.

The canards move, haven't tried to pull the nose cone off yet. Will let you know....
