Here is the P-51 forward swept wing concept that I have just finished this past week. I only had two pictures of the factory model and a low irresolution image of the factory drawing to work with, and that is about it. As usual the tires and nav lights are photo manipulated, as is the gunsight. I was able to "borrow" the seat and prop from my P-51H drawing. This should be the same scale as my FTB Mustang and my P-51H. Edit: Line drawing by Chuck Davis

There's a 36" span plan for a Radio Control FSW P-51 at https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?1704255-Forward-Swept-Wing-P51-Hybrid-Plan-Posted
and a "build thread" at https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?1664516-Forward-Swept-Wing-P51-Hybrid

" My research on this odd ship states that it got as far as the wind tunnel in Inglewood, but there was concern about oscillation and flutter in the highly tapered, forward swept wings, and the project was abandoned. However, the design showed promise. "

Just me perhaps but those wings are swept a long way forward. Any hints where the radiator exhausts or is it a long propshaft turboprop?

It looks bloody good though.

It was to be powered by a piston engine up front like normal and I believe a jet engine to give it a "boost". The model as well as the factory drawing show the exhausts for a Packard Merlin. As stated above I had very little to go on when doing the profiles.
I used the line drawing from Chuck Davis out of Aeroplans Magazine(?). I do not know what issue. I do not remember when I got the image, but probably here https://www.secretprojects.co.uk/threads/mustang-variants.2397/post-63454

Anyway if you look at Chuck's ventral drawing from that thread it shows two waste gates underneath the aircraft. In the factory as well as Chuck's side view drawing the is a "notch" where the front fuselage meets the wings, which may be where the first waste gate is. I believe that the two lower front intakes are for the radiator, with the side intakes below the cockpit to supply the jet engine. I have no idea what the two other intakes just above the lower radiator intakes are for.

Hi GreatJimbo!
Thanks for nice vector image of unusual P-51, which is new to me.
Minor note - USAF inscription on the wing at side elevation should be distorted more extensively and rotated according to the airfoils.

What drawing application you use?

I'm glad you like my drawing. I am using Gimp to do them. I have been using it for about a year now. I'm still learning how to use it so hopefully one of these days I'll actually be good at it ;) Anyway using the perspective tool I can get it right sometimes, but like the USAF on the bottom of the wing not so much. If you get a chance you can check out my Deviantart gallery of other planes that aren't project aircraft here: https://www.deviantart.com/great-jimbo/gallery

Thank you for explanaition. Are you trying another applications, working with vector-based drawings? The style, you used in P-51 could be easily reproduced in them. Of course this just a suggestion, because using of favorite software enhance the joy of illustration
Unfortunately, DeviantArt requested to register in order to see works of it's members, including your'.
Perhaps, in future I'll do this.

Looking forward to next drawings!
