Here it is the dubbed "National Orbital Rescue System" an early application of the SV-5P/X-24A concept as rescue vehicle (even as mated with a Gemini spacecraft in the rear quarter).
It appeared in the 18 october 1965 issue of Aviation Week.

There were similar configurations for Dyna-Soar as well.

I think in this case, the idea was that Gemini would provide on-orbit maneuvering and then serve as essentially the airlock for the lifting body reentry vehicle.

I thought the same thing.
It is interesting to note that in the Martin Marietta's artwork the Gemini spacecraft appears to be subscaled respect the real one.
In my own artwork SV-5 and Gemini are in the same (correct) scale.

I suppose that this is a rendez vous and docking with a damaged Gemini capsule.
The Gemini Astronauts swicht from Gemini to NORS with a EVA.

But if you have a spaceplane as the NORS,what are you doing of a Gemini capsule?

Seems to be a Gemini used as maneuvering module!
But why have still the hatches ??
