Thank you my dear Jemiba,

The Louis Marmonier was designed in 1935 a tilt-propeller
project, with two propeller which were mounted between
dual counter-rotating ,with one tilting dawn and one tilting
up.

Can't stand the temptation, sorry !
Here's the 3-view to this remarkably modern looking VTOL
design, that, honestly said, wouldn't have had a chance to
take off vertically, I think.

Well, as a notion, it certainly has merit !!

Centre-line lift and thrust, no complex drive trains, passenger access well away from rotors...

Shame about it being grossly underpowered...

(I was unable to see the picture above, blocked in "loading" status for many minutes - I right-cliked, downloaded, reduced, and)
here is a more "easy to see view" of this great design, thanks Jens!

Oops, sorry !

Tophe, you're absolutely right, it took damned long for loading !
Resized it, too, so now there's the choice between a jpg- and a
gif-file .... :-\
As a kind of compensation another old VTOL concept, actually a
layout proposed today again, but still yet without success: A rotor-
wing with a pusher prop, designed in 1922 by Raúl Pateras Pescara .

Could it be made to work today??
Or is there something that would prohibit it from working? Like the wing in front of the engine-intakes ( if we equip it with jet-engines).
I think the problem would be that the jet-blast would throw up so much debris while landing that the engine would suck it up and destroy itself.
Nice concept and nice find :)

[OT from original post but on for this question] Have you seen this?

Topic renamed. Here is a much better quality scan of the original Marmonier patent.

Marmonier applied for this tandem aircraft design on February 13, 1932, but obtained the patent only on September 1, 1938!

From Italian Aeronautic,

please note the larger version with passengers and also they had fitted it was front
engine and a four (not two) propellers for VTOL flight, see it in drawing # 1.
