The Italian engineer Aurelio Robotti was a pioneer in the field of missiles and space exploration. His interest in missile research began in 1941, during the war when he was serving in the aeronautical engineering corps. In 1943 he proposed a project for a missile, the "aviobomba", which could be fired from a sub-submarine and was to be powered by a rocket engine fuelled by 75% alcohol and gaseous oxygen to ensure a theoretical range of 50 km. His project was approved by the high military authorities.the construction of a prototype was decided to go on to serial production but everything was abandoned after the armistice.shortly afterwards Robotti was contacted by the Germans to continue his work in Germany but he refused.apart from the information quoted by -Giuseppe Ciampaglia in "La Propulsione a reazione in Italia dalli origini al 1943- the subject deserves further information.

Wonderful find! Are there any hints on more detailed data?
Hi,Dilandu.Unfortunately, not enough technical details than those stated in the book but there is a bibliographic note n°69 related to an article of Robotti - (1941-1961: Vinti anni di attività missilistica in "Missili", Ottobre 1961.)-,there might be some additional information in this article.

Thank you, I'll try to find out is there any digital versions of that magazine available.

When I became interested in Aurelio Robotti, I found stimulating information here and in
https://www.secretprojects.co.uk/threads/italian-sams-of-1950s.39154/

After several months of work, I can now provide the first results in a new page of my hypertext URANIA LIGUSTICA (the muse Urania in Liguria)
http://uranialigustica.altervista.org/robotti/

I'm sorry, but almost everything is in Italian.
It is a collection of information from which I would like to draw some articles.
I hope that someone is interested and can give me criticisms and suggestions.

Last but not least... in the thanks I obviously mentioned this forum!

Hi Astrofilo, I am very happy for you that the SPF forum encouraged you for more information on the work of Aurelio Robotti as long as it benefits us all and your effort to gather as much as possible through in-depth research and collection in order to to be able to offer in a work a subject worthy of interest available by a click on the web. Good luck.
