Hi all, I've seen a couple passing mentions of a supposed JMSDF destroyer design from the direct postwar period. This design, called "UD-2", was apparently a 3100t design with 3x2 10cm/65 and 2x5 533mm torpedo launchers. The primary documentation about this design is meant to be at the Yamato museum. Anyone know of any more information or articles about this design?

Where have you seen these 'Passing' mentions?
Would be curious to go looking myself.

Japan established the Maritime Safety Force in 1952 and acquired naval capabilities through the loan of Tacoma-class frigates. In 1955, the domestically built destroyer Harukaze entered service; its design was based on the Imperial Japanese Navy's Shiratsuyu-class destroyers and the U.S. Gearing-class destroyers. It had a displacement of 2,400 tons and was equipped with Mark 12 5-inch/38-caliber guns.
The 1952 naval reconstruction plan called for a total of 13 destroyers—aggregating 20,000 tons—including one large destroyer (designated as a destroyer leader). If such a vessel were to exist, it would be this large destroyer.

Furthermore, ammunition production forecasts for the 1953 fiscal year indicate that U.S. military ammunition was already being manufactured in Japan by the early 1950s. In 1952, Japan made only 12 cm Guns ammo, Not 10cm.←Miss! Last pic means only US force in Japan need how many arms and ammo! auther said "We need make this in japan",not say "We make it now"!Sorry!
