Hi! Bottom picture shows Saiun modificatrion plan to increase speed.
Upper picture shows Saiun No.3 prototype. Please take care nose botttom shape.
The carrier reconnaissance aircraft "Saiun", whose mission is forced reconnaissance, needed the most aerodynamic improvements.
As shown in the upper drawing, the original "Saiun" was equipped a "Homare" 22 type engine with a forced cooling fan and reduction ratio of 0.42, and was planned to adopt a large four-blade propeller.
However, due to the convenience of engine production, Saiun had combination of a "Homare" 21-type engine with reduction ratio of 0.5, without a forced cooling fan and a three-blade propeller , which was far from the aerodynamic ideal.
To compensate for this disadvantage, the effect of improving the shape of the rear part of the windshield was tested in experiments.
